It pays to be patient
BRUCE AND THE SPIDER
by: Bernard Barton (1784-1849)
- OR Scotland's and for freedom's right
- The Bruce his part has played;--
- In five successive fields of fight
- Been conquered and dismayed:
- Once more against the English host
- His band he led, and once more lost
- The meed for which he fought;
- And now from battle, faint and worn,
- The homeless fugitive, forlorn,
- A hut's lone shelter sought.
- And cheerless was that resting-place
- For him who claimed a throne;--
- His canopy, devoid of grace,
- The rude, rough beams alone;
- The heather couch his only bed--
- Yet well I ween had slumber fled
- From couch of eider down!
- Through darksome night till dawn of day,
- Absorbed in wakeful thought he lay
- Of Scotland and her crown.
- The sun rose brightly, and its gleam
- Fell on that hapless bed,
- And tinged with light each shapeless beam
- Which roofed the lowly shed;
- When, looking up with wistful eye,
- The Bruce beheld a spider try
- His filmy thread to fling
- From beam to beam of that rude cot--
- And well the insect's toilsome lot
- Taught Scotland's future king.
- Six times the gossamery thread
- The wary spider threw;--
- In vain the filmy line was sped,
- For powerless or untrue
- Each aim appeared, and back recoiled
- The patient insect, six times foiled,
- And yet unconquered still;
- And soon the Bruce, with eager eye,
- Saw him prepare once more to try
- His courage, strength, and skill.
- One effort more, his seventh and last!--
- The hero hailed the sign!--
- And on the wished-for beam hung fast
- That slender silken line!
- Slight as it was, his spirit caught
- The more than omen; for his thought
- The lesson well could trace,
- Which even "he who runs may read,"
- That Perseverance gains its meed,
- And Patience wins the race.
- The Bruce his part has played;--

The Value Of A Drink
The Value Of A Drink
'Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink I feel shame. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this wine, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, 'It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.' ~ Jack Handy WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may leave you wondering what the hell happened to your bra and panties among other things. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day. ' ~Frank Sinatra WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may create the illusion that you are tougher, smarter, faster and better looking than most people. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.' ~ Henny Youngman WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may lead you to think people are laughing WITH you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not.' ~ Stephen Wright WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may cause you to think you can sing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'When we drink, we get drunk. When we get drunk, we fall asleep. When we fall asleep, we commit no sin. When we commit no sin, we go to heaven. So, let's all get drunk and go to heaven!' ~ Brian O'Rourke WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may cause pregnancy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.' ~ Benjamin Franklin WARNING: The consumption of alcohol is a major factor in dancing like a retard. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.' ~ Dave Barry WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may cause you to tell your friends over and over again that you love them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To some it's a six-pack, to me it's a Support Group. Salvation in a can! ~ Dave Howell WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may make you think you can logically converse with members of the opposite sex without spitting. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And saving the best for last, as explained by Cliff Clavin, of Cheers. One afternoon at Cheers, Cliff Clavin was explaining the ' Buffalo Theory' to his buddy Norm. Here's how it went:
'Well ya see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.' WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may make you think you are whispering when you are not ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

True Story: Proud To Be Indian
Hello everyone,
This is a true story and it happened to one of our friends. It is so sweet that I felt like sharing it.
"In 1983, I was engaged in porting of a big application from CDC mainframe to a small Honeywell computer for a customer in a remote place called Bibbiena near Florence, Italy. I could do the debugging work only during the night as the computer was used for accounting during the day. So, I used to do the paper work during the day and debugging after dinner till three or four in the morning. Then two three hours of nap on an easy (not so easy) chair in front of the computer and back to work.
One fine morning, at around 07:00 I woke up to find the wife of gatekeeper of the factory with a big mug of boiling hot coffee with milk and bread-butter. The same thing happened again the next morning and again. My Italian was very poor and the lady couldn't speak any English. On the third day, I was told by the gatekeeper that I was invited for lunch at their house and once there, the lady offered to wash my clothes as I was away from home and always working. I also discovered that she used to walk four km early in the morning up to a farm house to get fresh milk for my coffee. I was unable to understand why this much of attention and affection for me. After all, I was unknown to them till the other day. And when I discovered the reason behind, I was full of tears and bent my head in the face of the greatness of this elderly lady.
The story goes like this. When the allied forces entered Italy, after the battle of Monte Cassino, they started inching towards north Italy due to a very stiff resistance by the Germans. Our "masters" our "rulers" – the likes of Churchill who firmly believed in the superiority of white race, sent North Africans and other "inferior" races including Indians as advance troops to face the German machine gun fire. These poor people who left their villages to earn some money doing soldiering for the "masters" had hard time in these distant lands.
When they started advancing from Naples up to Rome to Florence and so on, many of them along with the Americans got engaged in rapes, lootings and other such things to the local population, to vent out their rage against the Germans and their Fascist allies. Many of the village girls used to hide in cattle sheds to avoid rape by North Africans and one such young girl was the lady I have mentioned before. She was in her late teens and was hiding along with other women when they were surprised by some Algerian soldiers. They would have had a very bad fate but fortunately another group of soldiers arrived and saved them from the clutches of Algerians and escorted them to a safe place. The only thing she remembered of the leader of her rescuers was that he was an Indian, had beautiful black eyes, snow white teeth, a metal bracelet in his hand (kara) and a turban on his head. Since then she had always wanted to do something for the kind people of that kind country. And finally, in me she had encountered a person from that land.
"You will understand why I am so proud to be an Indian"!!
God's Pharmacy
God's Pharmacy
(THIS IS SO REAL, MAKES YOU THINK TWICE)
It's been said that God first separated the salt and water from the fresh dry land, planted a garden, made animals and fish... all before making a human. He made and provided what we'd need before we were born. These vegetables and fruit are best & more powerful when eaten raw. We're such slow learners... God left us a great clue as to what foods help what part of our body! A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye... and YES, science now shows carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes. A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart has four chambers and is red. All of the research shows tomatoes are loaded with lycopine and are indeed pure heart and blood food. Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food. A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds on the nut are just like the neo-cortex. We now know walnuts help develop more than three (3) dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function. Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys. Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and many more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don't have enough sodium in your diet, the body pulls it from the bones, thus making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body. Avocadoes, Eggplant and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female - they look just like these organs. Today's research shows that when a woman eats one avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight, and prevents cervical cancers. And how profound is this? It takes exactly nine (9) months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (mo dern science has only studied and named about 141 of them). Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the mobility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm as well to overcome male sterility. Sweet Potatoes . Look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics. Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries. Oranges, Grapefruits, and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts. Onions look like the body's cells. Today's research shows onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes. A working companion, Garlic, also helps eliminate waste materials and dangerous free radicals from the body.

Health Tips -Why breast milk is important.
- Breast milk contains numerous immunogenic materials that not only prevent disease in newborn baby but also stimulate and strengthens the development of baby's immature immune system. This results in better health, even for years after breast feeding has ended.
- Each breastfed baby gets fewer infections, including middle ear infection and diarrhoea.
- Breast fed babies have lesser chances of asthma, allergic disorders and obesity.
